The 23rd edition of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE), the most influential and comprehensive lighting and LED event in Asia, is set to take place from 9 ‒ 12 June 2018, at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China. Thanks to the positive response from the industry, the “THINKLIGHT” show concept will return and continue to develop at the 2018 show under the theme of “Embracing Changes”. As the lighting industry continues to undergo its digital revolution, thoughts are now turning to how lighting can expand its scope by becoming fully connected and a ‘smartʼ device.
Ms. Lucia Wong, deputy general manager of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., commented on the theme of the show next year: “Digital lighting has really arrived. The problem we face as an industry is how do we respond to these changes and continue to shine? GILE has always been To become a platform for gathering lighting communities, we hope people recognize the potential of light, explore sustainable lighting, and make positive contributions to our well-being.
As a trusted platform for global industry experts, GILE showcased the latest technology and products from leading brands and organized a wide range of synchronized events to address current lighting industry trends and themes.
The transition to the future of LEDs Over
100 years ago, the first flash of the lighting industry was the innovation of electric lamps. Although the lighting industry has achieved rapid development since then, there has been relatively little technological advancement in the industry to change the rules of the game. Fluorescent lamps, HID, low-pressure sodium lamps and MR16 lamps have become turning points in the industry, but the rise of LEDs is of revolutionary significance.
GILE 2018 will be at the forefront of demonstrating how the introduction of LED technology will transform the lighting industry from analog to digital. LEDs are not only recyclable but also have a long life, so LEDs can be easily integrated with control devices, leading to significant developments in connection and smart lighting technology.
The combination of LED lighting technologies and concepts such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Internet of Things (IOT), and Big Data has led to the emergence of many new application areas. Today's discussion in the industry revolves around how lighting can expand its scope and integrate into our daily lives. For lighting suppliers, this requires moving from selling light bulbs to selling services based on IoT connectivity. New segments, such as automatic light-emitting diodes, small bay LEDs, horticultural lighting, poultry lighting, ultraviolet light emitting diodes, and infrared light emitting diodes, are beginning to attract attention in the industry.
By not only welcoming leading lighting exhibitors from China and around the world, but by providing a comprehensive side event program, GILE 2018 will explore the latest industry developments and raise many new topics for the industry. A series of high quality speakers will be announced before the show.
LED and IoT Community - Wisdom Overlighting
Guangzhou International Lighting Fair is the place where the industry showcases its latest cutting-edge products and technologies. Intelligent lighting will once again become a key product area for the 2018 exhibition. Integrating network connectivity and intelligence into LED-based luminaires helps to form the backbone of smart buildings and cities and makes the vision of the Internet of Things practical. According to recent research in the industry, it is expected that by 2026 this booming market sector will generate $4.5 billion in revenue.
"Semantic lighting" is a form of lighting that connects the physical world to the digital world and adds a step beyond the intelligence of lighting. This revolutionary lighting concept can intelligently adapt to different users, tasks, and environments, and can basically realize what it illuminates. In addition to semantic lighting, people-centered lighting has become more common. To help relax, change emotions, and even help improve night-time sleep, human-centered lighting is changing the way light is perceived and its role in human daily life.
More than 85% of the exhibition space is sold out due to recognition by well-known brands
The comprehensiveness of the exhibition covers the production, technology and application fields of the lighting and LED industry, from components and equipment to packaging and applications. With the development of 7 months, 85% of the booths in the 2018 exhibition have been booked, and the exhibition has again won the participation of many world-renowned brands.
At the leading brand participating in the 2018 show, Tom Jory, vice president of lighting marketing, who returned to exhibitor Luminus, commented on why GILE was a must-attend event. “With GILE, we can contact our customers and see them in one place. Over the years, I have witnessed more and more international tourists, and we have been meeting many target tourists.”
Regarding the recent development of events, Ms. Lucia Wong added: “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the international and domestic lighting communities. With their support, the show has achieved the goal of becoming Asian market intelligence, technological innovation and breakthrough design exchanges. With the ambition of the most important platforms in the industry, we have chosen the theme of “Glory: Embracing Change” because we believe that with the power of modern technology, the possibility of light has reached a new level.”
Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition and Guangzhou Electric Building Technology run simultaneously. Both events are part of the Light + Building Technology exhibition organised by Frankfurt Messe and will be led by the biennial Light + Building event, which will take place from March 18 to March 23, 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany.
